Read Swift and answer the following questions:

A. What is the rhetorical context of the “I had an abortion” argument analyzed in Swift’s article: Topic, Issue, Author, Exigency (immediate and personal as well as societal), Audience, Purpose, Message, Medium ? One or two sentence answers for each category are acceptable. Note that you are completing this for the ARGUMENT (the t-shirt), not for Swift’s article.

Topic: Abortion

Issue: Is it publically accepted for someone to be open about their decision to have an abortion? Is abortion accepted in society.

Author: The women who choose to wear this shirt after deciding to have an abortion. The People wearing the shirt. Creator – In part planned parenthood. and the pro choose 22 year olds that decided to make the tshirt

Exigency: Persistent imperfections. Brought up due to the campain scrutiny of Pres Bush running for office and his open views about the subject. For the person wearing the shirt it was probably the right to have to option of having the abortion. That they had an abortion.

Purpose: To excerise free speech in the form of letting the world know that they had an abortion and dont care who knows it. To retaliate against those that are against abortions and help this movement.

Audience: In a broad view the general public. But more specifically women and President Bush. Those that are dealing with the decision or have made it to know that they arent alone.

medium: The shirt pretty much. The channel in which it was distributed is Planned parenthood. It was ordered from a website.

Message: not trying to hide the fact that they in fact had the abortion. Also to let others know that they shouldnt be ashamed that if i were to have one i shouldnt be ashamed of my decision.
